I used to be a DIY queen. When planning my wedding, I did my best to handcraft as many details as possible to really personalize it. But lately I’ve found myself neglecting those skills. I was really missing my (somewhat) relaxing crafting sessions. (Only somewhat relaxing because let’s be honest: occasionally the perfectionist in me rears her ugly head. But then again that’s what a glass of vino is for, right?! Right.) To get myself in the holiday spirit and rekindle my crafty side, I hit up my local Staples to pick up a ridiculous amount of Sharpies. (A girl needs color choices, y’all. And at $6 for the multi-color 12-pack I could afford the fancy shmancy neon and holiday-ready metallics too [both of which were only $5!])After
greatly over-analyzing looking at all my color choices, I knew exactly what I needed to do. Those sparkly metallic Sharpies just spoke to me and said, “Lauren, use me to make fancy holiday nail art!” (If you’re crafting supplies don’t speak to you, have another glass of wine.)
To prep my nails, I did all of the usual steps. I soaked my fingers in warm, soapy water to prep my cuticles. I filed. I trimmed. I buffed. Next I added quick swipe of OPI’s BondAid. If you’ve never used it before, I highly recommend it for at-home manis. It completely removes all of the oils from your nail, allowing the polish to properly adhere.I followed with base coat. (I love Orly’s Bonder, which creates a great rubbery smooth texture to your nail.)
Then came the fun part. To make the metallic really pop, I chose to apply two layers of a Winter-ready white (Sally Hansen’s White On). After letting it dry, I got to designin’. Stripes, chevron, polka dots? There were just too many options! So what did this girl do? Print mix, of course!
To set the Sharpie designs, I finished my fancy manicure with topcoat, and took a moment to admire my handiwork. All I can say is I still got it.
