I remember the first time I heard that whole “animal print is a neutral” thing. I’m pretty sure I laughed it off, thinking that it would never be my fashion mantra. And maybe I’m still not 100% on board with it (because I’m not sure it always works), but I am embracing it a whole lot more than I used to. Earlier this week I was mixing stripes, floral and leopard. Today, it’s all about leopard and plaid together.
On paper maybe plaid and leopard print don’t sound like they’d play nice together, but they do. The key with this outfit is that the rest of the pieces don’t compete. Chambray and a cream sweater make a nice, clean background for the prints.Top: J.Crew, Sweater: J.Crew, Pants: J.Crew (similar), Shoes: Steve Madden, Necklace: Boutique find (similar), Watch: Movado, Bracelet: Stella & Dot Gilded Bangle

I love this mix!! Plaid is every where this season and I love it! susan
Leopard with plaid is my favorite pattern mixing combo!! You did it perfectly, Lauren!!
These cropped pants are so so cute!
This has to be one of my favorite outfits of yours lately! I agree–animal print (or prints in general) aren’t ALWAYS as versatile as neutrals, but they can work really well sometimes!
I think the leopard and plaid really work well together, it helps that you balanced them out with a neutral top. Super cute!

How fun! You’ve inspired me to try mixing plaid with leopard–at least maybe a shirt and flats for now–that’s a start. 🙂 Love your layers and bling too!
You totally made this work, the combination is just perfect. Love your necklace!
I love the flats, and they work great with the tartan pants!
I love the pattern mixing here!

I love how you mixed Plaid with Leopard and Chambray. Ivory Sweaters, Chambray Shirts & Leopard Loafers are proving to be so versatile, aren’t they? I want a pair of Loafers like those. I love yours. =)
I am definitely on the “leopard as a neutral” bandwagon! I think adding leopard shoes is the perfect way to do it if you’re still not fully on board. I love how the plaid and leopard look together!
