If you followed my blog way back when I was pregnant with Layla, (um, that was three years ago! Crazy how time flies!), then you know that kimonos were a go-to. I was never one to hide my bump. In fact I always loved accentuating it with closer-fitting clothes. Then by adding a kimono on top, the look became more pulled together, just like with this maxi dress kimono outfit!

I feel like kimonos are the ultimate accessory for taking your most basic looks up a notch. And their versatility makes them a must-have! Of course I’m a fan of wearing them with maxi dresses, but they work with so many other outfit combinations too. And don’t think it’s just about the long kimono (although they are kinda my fav right now). Both shorter and longer versions are perfect for playing with proportions in your outfits!

Pair them with both long and short dresses. For pregnant mamas, I love them with a body-skimming or bodycon style dress like this maxi. (Ladies who aren’t expecting, you can totally rock this look too!) But they also pair well with shift styles! I always tend to stay away from wearing them with dresses that are a little too blouse-y though. You want to keep the look sleek!

And dresses aren’t the only way to rock them! I love them paired with both jeans and shorts! Again, make sure the top or tank you wear them with isn’t overly boxy or blouse-y. The kimono creates such a slimming line when paired with fitted or at least streamlined tops!

If those aren’t enough style ideas, then be sure to pack your kimono for the beach too! I love it thrown over a one-piece or bikini. Seriously chic poolside style, y’all. 😉
