Hello, hello! I’m so excited to be starting these pregnancy updates again! If you read way back when I was pregnant with Layla, bumpdates were a bi-weekly standard on the blog. (In fact, you can go check them out here if you’re feeling curious!) And I’m looking forward to doing them again! We’re kicking it off today with my 16 weeks pregnancy update! I’ve answered quite a few of the standard questions, but if you have anything else you’d like added to future ones, let me know if the comments!
How far along are you? 16 weeks!
All about baby: At our anatomy scan earlier this week, the tech estimated the baby weighed 4 oz., which is pretty on-average! Averages also estimate that baby is about 4.5 inches long, which is about the size of an avocado or in more fun terms, a Magic 8 ball. ? As I mentioned on Insta, we do know the gender, but we haven’t shared the news publicly yet. We’ll be sharing soon. I promise!
Have you decided on a name? Not yet! It seems like we have it narrowed down to maybe 2 or 3 options. Aaron has started calling baby one of the names, and Layla picked up on it. Soooo, now she’s calling the baby that too. I tried to put a kabosh on it, but you never know with toddlers. She could start going around telling everybody that’s the baby’s name any moment! Well either that or she’ll announce it as “Goo-Goo Ga-Ga,” which is the other name Layla keeps suggesting.
Are you having any cravings? I have had a bit more of a sweets craving lately. I just bought a dark chocolate pounder bar from Trader Joe’s so hopefully that’ll last me a little while! I’ve also been treating myself to a Milano cookie or two! Before now, I hadn’t had one in years.
Weight Gain: 5 lbs.
How are you feeling? Good overall. The midday exhaustion has lifted, which is a relief. But I’m still adjusting to all the side effects (I have no idea what else to call them!) of pregnancy. Remembering not to stand up too quickly took weeks! (But it still gets me sometimes!) And now exercise is starting to tire me way more than it used to. I’ll be fine during class, but later in the day, my body just aches and is exhausted. I just need to adjust to pushing a little less and also giving myself the grace to rest if I need it later!
Speaking of exercise, I’m still going to three spin classes a week, which I love. I’ve been meaning to add in a little prenatal yoga for a relaxing option. And I’m counting down the days until it’s warm enough when I can start taking walks outside!
How are you sleeping? I’m actually sleeping really well! You might have seen on Insta Stories that I purchased myself a new pregnancy pillow since my old one was 4 years old and way loved. It definitely helps with the lower back pain. I’m also getting up for the bathroom less, and I’m trying to enjoy that before the third trimester when I’m up all night again!
Best moment of the week: Like I mentioned earlier, we had our first anatomy scan this week. They typically happen at 20 weeks, but because of our previous pregnancy, I had a 16 week one scheduled. (We will still have another at 20 weeks to monitor everything.) We got to see the baby for quite a while, and it was hilarious to see the position baby was in. Baby had his/her back arched laying over backward. The sonogram tech called baby a tough one to measure! Baby would not change position! ? But we did get fantastic news at the appointment. Baby is looking great and my pregnancy appears complication-free at this point, which is such a relief.
Maternity Favorites: The one maternity piece that has gotten the most love to this point is this striped dress. You can see it styled two ways here on the blog! My other current fav: my pregnancy pillow!
It’s so nice seeing your cute little baby bump! 🙂
And so sweet your daughter is old enough to have input on your name choices too. When our eldest was a toddler he just kept calling the baby bump ‘baby’, haha. He saw him in hospital for the first time and just went ‘baaaabyyyyy’ so quietly, it was adorable! Still calls him baby now sometimes so maybe Goo-Goo will catch on! haha!
Hope you had a good week and you have a nice weekend ahead! We have family visiting so it will be a busy but fun weekend 🙂

You are coming along so well beautiful!
