One of my favorite things to do for y’all is to help you shop with dressing room reviews, so as soon as the store opened yesterday, Layla and I headed in for a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale try-on! I gotta admit: they are definitely more stressful than your typical try-on. We’re talking a marathon session, y’all! But with a bag full of snacks, a few toys, and the iPad, we both made it through!
Keep in mind that I’m currently eight months pregnant. Pre-pregnancy I most often wore a 8/medium/29. Everything I’m trying on and sharing is not maternity, but I’ll be sure to share the size I’m wearing to give you a better idea of fit and how to order!
FP Thermal — under $50!
This is one of the pieces I was most excited to try because I loooooove me some Free People. I assumed it would fit pretty oversized like most of their line, but it definitely fit closer to the body. I’m wearing a large here but would have gone with a medium pre-pregnancy. Order TTS! It comes in four colors, but I ended up ordering the mustard for fall!
Thermal under $50! (large) | Maternity Jeans (non-maternity option) | Slides
V-Neck Sweater — under $30!
This is the perfect basic sweater. It’s so lightweight, making it great for early fall and for layering up on cooler days. Fit is oversized and long. This could definitely be worn with leggings if you order TTS. For a closer fit, size down one. I’m in a medium, and it comes in three colors!
Sweater (medium)
Thermal Henley– under $25!
Another great basic option! It is so soft and comfy. You can’t beat the price point! It also comes in an oatmeal color. I’d say fit is a bit relaxed, but I’d still order TTS. I’m in a large.
Henley (large)
Button-front Top — under $25!
One of my favorites! I love the scoop neck– it’s super-flattering! And it’s perfect to pair with a pretty bralette. Fit is definitely closer to the body on this one, so if you don’t like anything tight, I’d suggest sizing up one. It’s also very bump-friendly! I’m in a large. White and burgundy are the other color options.
Top (large)
Madewell Boyfriend Plaid
For those of you who live in warm-climate places, this is your plaid top! It’s super-duper lightweight, which I love. It came home with me because I know I can wear it now with shorts and rolled sleeves. Plus it will be a great nursing-friendly option once baby comes! I’m bummed that it’s only available in this one print, but I do love the navy and hunter green combo! I’m wearing a medium, so you could definitely size down if you don’t want the boyfriend/oversized fit.
Top (medium)
Plaid Popover— under $35
Another great non-flannel plaid option. This one is a little heavier than the Madewell version, but still not as thick as flannel! It comes in six color options: some plaids, some solids. Fit is oversized. I’m wearing a large and I still had plenty of bump room! For pregnant mamas, this is a great option because the buttons only come down halfway!
Top (large) – comes in 6 colors
BP. Plaid— under $35 + Boyfriend Jeans
I decided to be brave and try some jeans for postpartum. Of course none of them buckled. ?These boyfriend fit were very comfy and relaxed. I tried them in a 31 because I have no idea what size I’ll be after baby. I probably would have gone with a 30 if I took them home. Fit is relaxed.
These BP. Plaids are a yearly staple! They are flannel but still not super-heavy or thick. There are six color options, and fit is oversized. I’m in a medium but would still recommend staying TTS for a relaxed fit.
Top (medium) | Jeans (size down)
Peasant Dress– under $55
It was painful leaving this dress in the store because it is so stinkin’ cute!! It’s very bump-friendly too! The only reason I didn’t keep it was because of baby. Even though it has a v-neck, it’s not nursing-friendly. I doubt I’d get much use out of it this fall. But if you’re not expecting, or are expecting later in the fall/winter, grab it up! It also comes in a navy. I’m wearing a medium.
Dress (medium)
Knot Tshirt Dress– under $35!
If I wasn’t pregnant or going to be nursing, this would have also been a big Y-E-S! I love the knotted-front detail, and it’s a t-shirt dress, y’all. So you know that it is comfy as all get-out. Wear it with sneakers for a daytime look or with booties and a jacket. It’s a staple!
I didn’t love it with the bump because of where the knot hits. It’s pretty much at the biggest part of my belly! Fit is relaxed and a bit oversized. I tried both a large and medium, so you can see the sizing difference!
Dress (large)
Dress (medium)
Ribbed Bodycon Dress— under $35!
This is the perfect bump-friendly dress! My store didn’t have it available in a large, so I ended up trying it in an XL, and I actually liked the fit! This one definitely fits snug. I’d recommend sizing up one for non-maternity and sizing up two if you’re pregnant.
Dress (XL) – size up
Wrap Dress — under $40
After seeing this one online, I had no intention of trying it in-store. The model made it look more risque for sure!! But I saw it on another expecting blogger and decided to give it a shot. I’m so glad I did! It’s not nearly as short as the online image. It also comes in navy blue. Whether you’re expecting or not, this is a great, figure-flattering dress! It’s one of those pieces you can wear for daytime (with sandals or slides) or date night (with heels and statement earrings)!
Dress (large)
V-neck Crepe Dress— under $45
This one reminded me a lot of that other super-popular crepe dress I own, but this version is a little heavier and more substantial. It’s hard to tell, but it’s actually navy blue with black trim at the neckline. It also comes in white! I’d definitely recommend this for those of you who work in an office setting! You’ll notice some pulling around the baby bump. There are actually faux side-slit pockets there. Fit is TTS.
Dress (large)
Topshop Bodycon Dress— $25!
This is another one I wasn’t planning on trying on but decided to last-minute. It’s so much cuter on than it is on the hanger! I really liked the cross-body seams. It creates a very flattering visual! Of course it’s very bump-friendly because of the bodycon fit. Also comes in black.
Dress (large)
Colorblock Sweater— under $35!
I’m in love with this sweater! It also comes in shades of reds/berries, but I love this brown and black combo! Fit is wide and a little cropped but not overly so! It’s the perfect length to wear with midrise or highrise denim. I’m wearing a large. Fit is TTS.
Sweater (large)
Topshop Stripe Sweater–under $45
I instantly fell in love with this sweater because of the colors! It’s so pretty in person! I tried on a US 10. Fit is TTS.
Sweater (US 10)
Lace Detail Top— $45 + Raw Hem Jeans— under $60!
This lace top is a great summer-to-fall piece! You can wear it now with shorts and later under a moto jacket or cardi! Fit is relaxed but I’d still stay TTS.
The jeans are super-soft and comfy! I also liked the raw hem! I’m 5’7″ and they fit right at my ankle. I’m wearing a size 31 (two sizes up from my pre-pregnancy size.) I’d say they fit TTS.
Suede Jacket
This is a little pricier of a piece, but still a major steal for a suede jacket! I am obsessed with the olive color but it also comes in burgundy. I sized up to a large and liked the fit a little more relaxed. It’s easier to layer with sweaters with a little extra room!
Camo Jacket + Long Sleeve Stripe Tee— under $20!
Normally I’m all about the most affordable pieces, but this camo jacket just got me. I actually really like the boxier cut. It also comes with side drawstrings to make it fit closer to the body. I know I’m going to get tons of wear out of it starting now through fall!
Of course these tees are a yearly staple. They do fit somewhat relaxed but I’d recommend staying TTS. I’m in a medium and it barely fit! ?
Jacket (medium) | Tee (medium)
Waffle Cardigan— $45!
This cardi is my top cardigan pick. I just loved the texture and fit! It’s definitely a relaxed fit but I’d stay TTS unless you’re in between sizes.
Cardigan (medium) | Tee (medium)
Topshop Long Cardigan— under $50!
My second favorite cardigan from the sale! This one comes in four colors. I ended up with both this pink and the cream, but I’m going to try to narrow it down to one! Fit is oversized, so I recommend sizing down. I’m wearing a US 6!
Cardigan (US 6 – size down) | Tee (medium)
Madewell Cardigan + BP. Tee— only $11!!
This Madewell cardigan is heaven, y’all. It’s the perfect staple, classic, wear everyday cardi. It is a little pricier at $64, but it’s one that never goes out of style. I kind of wish I had them in every color because they just drape perfectly. Fit is TTS.
These tees are another staple. They are a little bit thin but not see-through. I’m wearing a large. Fit is relaxed but I’d stay TTS.
Cardigan (medium) | Tee (large)
Draped Suede Jacket— under $60
I probably would not have picked this up had I not seen it on someone else first. But y’all, it is SO GOOD. The material is heavenly-soft. So, if you hate stiff, constricting jackets, this one is for you! It’s also a pretty lightweight option. I’m already regretting not taking it home because I think it’d be so great for nursing! It also comes in burgundy and a taupe color.
Jacket (medium) | Cami — not from sale but only $19! (exact maternity version!)
Hooded Faux Leather Jacket— under $65!
I loooove this jacket, y’all. This year’s version comes with a detachable hood, which I actually love even more! It makes it perfect for wearing super-casually. Think: tshirt, leggings, sneakers, and this! But since you can remove the hood, you can also dress it up with a dress and or cami and heels! It comes in three colors. I sized up to a large for a more relaxed fit.
Jacket (large) | Cami — not from sale but only $19! (exact maternity version!)
Cut-out Booties— under $80
I actually ordered a few pairs of boots online, but these I wanted to try in-store since I was on the fence. They are really cute in person, and I love the cut-out details! I ended up sizing down one half size to an 8.5, but I have a pretty narrow foot and ankle. Otherwise, I’d recommend staying TTS. They come in nearly every neutral color possible!
Booties (TTS unless you have a narrow foot. Then size down one 1/2 size!)
Great reviews! I now have my eye on the plaid popover and the booties. I saw the booties last night but wasn’t sure on sizing, so thank you!
Back to tell you that I ordered the booties in blush, the v sweater you showed, the drape coat in tan and the plaid popover! Thnaks for the recs!
YAY! I hope you love everything you ordered! ❤️
Kudos to you girl! you made things so easy for all your readers and followers. By the way, you look gorgeous! Best wishes.
That is the hope! Thank you so much, Daisy!
Where is the white cami you are wearing in those last photos from? I have been searching for something just like that!
It’s from ASOS and it’s only $19! ??Here is a link to the regular one: http://bit.ly/2EcRs0S And this is a link to the exact maternity one: http://bit.ly/2H2ixXA
