In honor of the first day of public access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I’m sharing something big with y’all: one plaid top styled fifteen different ways. You read it right: fifteen different plaid outfits all with one $31 plaid top! (And actually there might even be a bonus look there too! ?) Nearly all of the items used to create the outfits are also on sale! Hopefully these fifteen looks will inspire you and help you narrow down which items are on your must-have fall wardrobe list!
I tried to include fit information for pieces, but if you have any questions about fit or style, be sure to also check out my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale try-on and Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2018 try-on pt. 2 for individual reviews of each item!
1. Plaid top + Shorts + Sneakers
One of my favorite ways to wear plaid now! Roll the sleeves up, pair it with your favorite denim shorts and sneakers, and go!
Top (medium) | Maternity Shorts (non-maternity option) | Sneakers
2. Plaid top + Camo Jacket + Shorts + Sneakers
This is another great warm-weather-friendly outfit! I simply added a camo jacket on top. Don’t be afraid to print mix! This jacket works especially well because of the red rose shoulder patches. They pick up the red in the plaid perfectly! You could also wear this with booties!
Jacket (medium) | Maternity Shorts (non-maternity version) | Sneakers
3. Plaid top + Tank/Tee + Shorts + Booties
Another way I transition my plaid from summer to fall! Open it up and wear it over a tee or tank! I’m just wearing a plain ole maternity tank top here, but I own and love these $11 tees! (Fit is relaxed on them!) I also paired this look with booties to give more of a fall vibe, but I’d also wear this with sneakers.
Tank | $11 Tees! | Maternity Shorts (non-maternity version) | Booties (TTS)
4. Plaid top + Cargo Jacket + Jeans + Wedge Sneakers
A great classic fall outfit with a bit of a twist! My jacket is verrrry old from Old Navy, but there is one included in the sale that I’m contemplating ordering! It looks a bit softer and easier to roll the sleeves! And y’all, these wedge sneakers! I love that they’re a great alternative to the bootie. They are super-comfy and are seriously one of my favorite finds!!
Jacket (small) – #nsale version | Maternity Jeans (non-maternity sale option) | Wedge Sneakers (TTS)
5. Plaid top + Waffle Cardigan + Jeans + Mules
You can’t go wrong with popping a cardigan over a plaid top! This waffle knit one is my favorite from the sale, but really any one will do! I also added a trendy studded mule! These are actually not from the sale. I ordered the ones from Nordstrom and then saw these online for under $25 and ordered them immediately. They also come in black!
Cardigan (medium) | Maternity Jeans (non-maternity sale option) | Mules (TTS)
6. Plaid top + Moto Jacket + Jeans + Moto Booties
A little bit of an edgier take on plaid but still a classic! I love how effortlessly cool this combo is! Just throw on a moto jacket and booties! This would also be cute (and a little more trendy) with a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans! (BTW, these moto booties are another fav from the sale. They’re under $70, real leather, and come in three colors!)
Moto Jacket (medium) | Maternity Jeans (non-maternity sale option) | Booties (TTS)
7. Plaid top + Hooded Moto Jacket + Jeans + Wedge Sneakers
OBSESSED with this combo. Pairing a moto jacket with plaid doesn’t have to be overly edgy if that’s not your style! Instead I went with the hooded moto jacket, which y’all know I’m legit obsessed with (because it can wear super-casual or dressy when you remove the hood!) and wedge sneakers! Another casual option would be to wear converse or you could even wear a bootie too!
Hooded Moto Jacket (large) | Maternity Jeans (non-maternity sale option) | Wedge Sneakers
8. Plaid top + Long cardigan + Jeans + OTK Boots
I don’t know if it gets more classic than this! Just add a long cardi, your fav jeans, and over the knee boots! Just FYI, these boots barely come over the knee on me and I’m 5’7″. Buuut they are super comfy since they have a low heel. The suede is also very soft!
Long Cardigan (size 6) | Maternity Jeans (non-maternity sale option) | Over the knee boots (TTS)
9. Plaid top + Tee + Leggings + Sneakers
One thing I love about this plaid top is how long it is. It’s perfect for pairing with leggings! I also added a long tee (one of the $11 ones!) and sneakers to keep it super-casual.
Tee (large) – $11! | Leggings (large) — Plain faux leather version | Sneakers
10. Plaid top + Moto Jacket + Leggings + OTK Boots
I would definitely prefer this outfit with the plain faux leather leggings (as opposed to these moto ones), but since I’m eight months pregnant, these are the only ones that currently fit. (And “fit” is debatable! ?) Even though the jacket is more cropped, this look still works because of the long plaid. Both my crotch and bootie are covered!
Moto Jacket (medium) | Leggings (large) — Plain faux leather version | Over the knee boots (TTS)
11. Plaid top + Scarf + Jeans + Booties
An always-classic combo! Throw on a scarf and your favorite booties! You could also do this look with any type of boot (OTK, moto) or even sneakers!
Scarf option on sale | Maternity Jeans (non-maternity sale option) | Booties
12. Plaid top + Denim Jacket + Jeans + Mules
When I wear denim on denim I always make sure there is a good contrast between the washes. For this look I went with black jeans, but you could easily swap it for white jeans or even a dark wash! To keep it a bit more trendy, I paired this look with the studded mules. If you want to go more classic, try a bootie or sneaker!
Denim jacket (small) | Maternity Jeans (non-maternity sale option) | Mules (TTS)
13. Knotted plaid top + Jeans + Wedge Sneakers
This look isn’t the most bump-friendly, but it is one I’d wear if I wasn’t expecting! I just unbuttoned the bottom button and knotted the ends for a different look. If you’re wearing high-waisted jeans, you could create an even more cropped top look by tying it higher up!
Maternity Jeans (non-maternity sale option) | Wedge sneakers (TTS)
14. Plaid top + Dress + Mules
For early fall this is another combo I can’t live without! Just unbutton your plaid top and throw it on over a dress. Just make sure the dress is a little more fitted. It doesn’t need to be bodycon, but you don’t want it to be too loose with a loose shirt on top. Keeping one piece fitted helps keep the look tailored. You could go with a variety of different shoes for this look (booties, sneakers, even sandals!).
15. Plaid top + Dress + OTK Boots or Booties
I couldn’t help showing this look with two shoe options just to demonstrate how differently a shoe can change up a look! For more of a date night/sexy version, I went with the over the knee boots! For more casual, the moto booties are perfect! I would also wear this with sneakers.
As far as knotting the top this way, I suggest tying it at the very smallest part of your waist for a flattering fit. If you’re pregnant this will be right above your bump! Then just fold the back/shirt tail into it self and make sure it looks smooth!
Dress (large) | Over the knee boots (TTS)| Moto booties (TTS)
16. Plaid top + Dress + Sneakers
Probably my all-time favorite summer-to-fall look. Pregnant mamas, don’t be afraid to try this by knotting below the belly! If you’re not expecting, knot at your waist! I would also wear this look with booties!
