I’ve been promising a Target try-on for weeks now, and it’s finally here!! The problem is that I kept going back to Target (as one does, right?!) and finding more and more things to try on! So you’ll probably notice that Ellie makes an appearance in some photos and not others. (Thank goodness for help from grandma! ?) And the dressing rooms might look a little different. It’s just three different trips all rolled into one massive Target try-on for May!
As far as my sizing goes, I’m 5’7 1/2″ with a short torso and longer legs. I typically wear a 28/29 or size 8 or a medium. If you ever have any question about what size I’m wearing, the size details are always listed beneath each photo!
Top + Button Front Shorts
I wanted to love this top! It was giving me all the Madewell vibes– the color, the eyelet, the sweet bow details. It just fit funky on me. In hindsight, I should have probably taken the time to adjust the sleeves. (The bow is adjustable with a tie!) Straight off the hanger it was a little snug on me and I think that’s what caused the neckline to feel overly wide. If orange isn’t your thing, this top also comes in cream.
And onto the shorts! Of all the pairs I tried, these were one of my top two favs. Again, they look so much like Madewell with the button front and the frayed cutoff hem. I’m wearing an 8. They have some stretch to them but I wouldn’t size down. They have a 4 inch inseam.
Top (medium) | Shorts (8) | Sandals (9)
Here are the two color options for the top!
Top (TTS)
White Button Down + Shorts
If you’re looking for a basic short sleeve button down, this is a good one! I have the Madewell courier shirt, but this one has a more classic cut than that version. Fit is relaxed but stay TTS so that you can also wear it knotted like I am below in the second photo.
For these shorts, I’m also wearing an 8. They have more stretch than the first pair, but I’d still stick with my true size. They have a three inch inseam and are very comfortable.
Wearing this top knotted is perfect for shorts, high waisted skirts, or even over dresses!
Top (medium) | Shorts (8) | Sandals (9)
Stripe Tee + Drawstring Shorts
I’m so used to relaxed fit tees that it felt weird to be in a fitted version! I’m wearing a size medium and it fits TTS. The fabric did feel a little slinkier though, so I would probably be more comfortable in size up. It has more of a square neck, and the stripes are a deep golden yellow.
And y’all, I wanted to love these shorts! With the elastic waistband and light chambray fabric, they are very comfortable. But they have the teeniest, tiniest rear pockets. WHY, TARGET?! There is nothing flattering on the rear end about a tiny pocket!
Tee (medium) | Shorts (medium) | Sandals (9)
Button-front Tank + Shorts
If you are on the hunt for the perfect longer short, I love these!! They are a mid-rise and have a ten inch inseam! These would also be perfect to trim yourself if you wanted something in-between your typical four inch and ten inches. I am wearing a size 10, which is a size up from my normal size.
The tank is a great basic that you can layer with or wear solo! The buttons are functional and the fit is relaxed. I’m wearing a medium. It also comes in a light yellow.
Tank (medium) | Shorts (10) | Sandals (9)
Leopard Tee + Overalls
YES, and YES. Anyone else?! I absolutely love both of these! Unfortunately it seems like the long overalls are out of stock, but I ended up ordering the shorts version! They fit relaxed but I like the medium on me. The straps are adjustable but re-knotting, and the belt is adjustable as well!
This tee is so adorable too! It has the cutest puff sleeve. I’m wearing an XS, which is the only size they had in my store. Stick with your true size for a relaxed fit. If you want a more fitted look, size down one!
Top (XS — TTS) | Overalls (medium) | Sandals (9)
Stripe Tee + Button Overalls
I was thinking I might like these overalls after the success of the last pair, but NOPE. The material is different. It’s thinner and you can see every crease and bump beneath them. The straps are also not adjustable. Fit is much more snug than the last pair. Just an all-around MEH.
The tee, however, is super-cute. It’s the same exact tee as the leopard one but in my usual medium. I like the fit of this one much better. It’s slightly relaxed, and I love the puff sleeve.
Tee (medium) | Overalls (medium) | Sandals (9)
Striped Jumpsuit
I love the red, white, and blue stripes of this jumpsuit! It did not fit me as well as I would have liked. There was too much fabric in the hips, and since the fabric was a bit stiffer, it stuck out. I would prefer a size smaller. This exact one is currently only available in plus sizing, but I do love this striped option and this one has five star reviews!
Similar jumpsuit (medium) — exact only available in plus | Sandals (9)
Floral Maxi Dress
Another pretty red, white, and blue option! Again, the stiffer fabric of it didn’t work so well on me. I’m short-waisted, so the top which blouses over an elastic waistband stuck out stiffly. Since there wouldn’t be as much fabric folding over on ladies with longer torsos, I don’t see it being an issue. It runs a little large. I’m in a medium.
Tiered Dress
This is another option that I didn’t love on me fit-wise! The tiered design is so cute, but it definitely runs large. Although they’re not fully adjustable, there are two concealed buttons on the back straps for two strap lengths. The back of the top is elastic as well. Along with the somewhat shapeless fit, the back elastic was bunching out on me in a medium. I would have much preferred a smaller size. Size down!
Red Midi Dress
This dress is nearly the same cut as the previous one but in a subtle red, white, and blue embroidery. The fit of this version is more TTS, but I didn’t love where the waist hit me! It might just be short torso problems! I’m in a medium.
Striped Dress
This dress was one of my favorites that I tried! I loved the blue stripes and how they create a v in the bodice! It draws the eye to the center of the body, which is very flattering! It’s also a linen blend, which is great for warmer days ahead! Paired with red accessories, it’s also great for the 4th! Fit is TTS. I’m in a medium.
Chambray Romper
This chambray fabric is the lightest material and so soft! I also appreciated the wider straps. No strapless bra needed! Fit is pretty relaxed! It was pulling on me at the bust-line, but I’m wondering if it’s because of how I was wearing it. Had I adjusted the waist to my natural waist and folded over the top, I think it would have looked better! I’m in a medium.
Red Button-front Dress
I love the dainty white floral print on this red dress! It’s so cute! The buttons are a tortoise-style and functional. It also has a shirred back panel to prevent the fabric pulling at the bust line. The cut is a little more fitted. I’m in a medium.
Tie Tee + Pocket Shorts
Although it’s hard to tell, this tee has a subtle red, white, and blue stripe. I also love the tie detail in the front. Fit is very relaxed. I’m in a medium, but I like this fit on me. This would be so cute with jeans and white bottoms too!
The shorts have a crazy amount of stretch to them! They are very soft too! The mini front pockets are functional and there are full rear pockets. I’m wearing a 8.
Tee (medium) | Shorts (8/29) | Sandals (9)
Wide Leg Pants + Tank
I.LOVE.THESE.PANTS! If they had had them in a medium in store, I would have brought them home with me! I’m wearing them in a small and they were too snug in the hips. They are a lightweight linen blend and also come in a black and white stripe. (These are the navy and white!) These definitely compare to some of the higher end versions I’ve tried.
This tee on the other hand isn’t my fav. It’s almost a sweater material. I couldn’t find the exact one online, but I’m linking to a version that has 93 five star reviews. So, get that one instead! ?
Pants (small) | Tank (medium) | Sandals (9)
Eyelet Top
I had such mixed feelings about this top. I absolutely love the button-front design and the eyelet material. But the sleeves really threw me off. Looking back at the photo now I think it looks super-cute with my distressed jeans! I wish I would have tried the small for comparison!
Top (medium) | Jeans (28) | Sandals (9)
Leopard Tank
Of course this tank is a winner in my book! It has the same exact leopard print as the puff sleeve tee but the material is more of a dressier blouse-like fabric. This is the kind of top that’s great for layering for work under a cardigan, blazer, or jacket. Then you can also wear it on the weekends with jeans, shorts, or skirts! Fit is relaxed but I like how the medium fits on me.
Tank (medium) | Jeans (28) | Sandals (9)
Wide Strap Tank
If you’re looking for a great basic tank, I love this one! It’s the kind of tank that can create a bodysuit-type look. Tuck it in to jeans or skirts. You could also wear it under spaghetti strap dresses, tanks, or overalls. I also love it just like this with jeans! This ended up coming home with me! I’m in a medium.
Tank (medium) | Jeans (28) | Sandals (9)
Chambray Button-front Tank + Gingham Shorts
I’ve been wanting a tank chambray button down for a while now! My short sleeve and long sleeve versions get a ton of use. So, I was pumped to find this one! It does fit oversized, but I stuck with my typical size medium to wear it knotted.
The shorts on the other hand were a bust! They didn’t have an 8 in-store, so I grabbed a 10. And they barely fit. Like I struggled to get them on!! They were also very see-through and thin. I was bummed because they had potential!
Grey Lounge Jumpsuit
If you love to live in comfy clothes, you’re going to love my next two finds! This lounge jumpsuit is so stinkin’ comfortable! I didn’t realize I had grabbed a small, but I do like the fit. The only thing I didn’t love was the view from the backside. It definitely gave me a wide pancake booty! ?So, my suggestion would be to keep this as loungewear and not wear it out of the house!
Jumpsuit (small)
Lounge Pullover + Jogger Pants
These two were winners and I ended up taking them home with me in the lighter gray color! They are made of the same material as the jumpsuit, but I loved that these two could be worn both separately and together. I sized down to a small in the top, and it’s still plenty roomy. For the pants I stuck with a medium.
Top (small) | Joggers (medium)
Red Button-front Dress
I absolutely love this shade of red! It’s so bright and fun for summer! The buttons are functional and it has an elastic waistband with a removable waist tie. My store didn’t have a medium, so I tried the large. It seemed to be a little on the roomier side even with a size up. I’d suggest sizing down if you’re in between sizes!
Dress (large)
Off Shoulder Jumpsuit
I had high hopes when I saw this one on the hanger, but it didn’t work for me! The hips were too wide the the crotch area just sagged. I probably could have sized down one but I wasn’t sure if it would lose the wide leg effect. I could only find this one online in plus, but my store seemed to be fully stocked!
Jumpsuit (medium)
Tank Dress
This dress is one of those pieces that has me wishing I wasn’t breastfeeding a baby. It is so adorable! I especially love it paired with sneakers. I could see myself wearing this running errands or hanging with the kids. The only downside was that the side slits were a bit short on me. I would probably size up one for a little extra length and hip room. It was slightly snug even though I have more narrow hips.
Dress (medium) | Sneakers (8.5)
Leopard Print Top
The leopard always gets me!! Although I think this is more of a cheetah since it’s more spotted! It’s made of a blouse-y material that can be both dressed up and down. The sleeves are slightly puffed and it has a little ruffle on the sleeve and the bottom hem! There is also a drawstring in the middle that creates a ruched look and also ties in a bow at the bottom! I ended up ordering a large since it looked cropped on the model, but I’d recommend sticking with your true size. I’d prefer a medium!
Top (large) – stay TTS | Jeans (28) | Sandals (9.5)
Off Shoulder Stripe Top
I saw this top on a friend and fell in love! The stripes are that golden-y orange color and cream. It also comes in black and white though! The entire bodice is smocked and I love the tiny little ruffle on the sleeve. My only complaint is how stiff the peplum is! It really sticks out! I sized up one to a large and like the fit.
Top (large) – size up | Jeans (28) | Sandals (9.5)
Shorts Overalls
These shorts are probably my favorite find at Target! They are exactly the same as the long pant version I shared earlier above but in a shorts version. The material is the same linen blend and so lightweight. The straps are adjustable, and I love the relaxed fit. I also paired them with my leopard tank here on Instagram!

If you made it to the end, you must be a true Target lover! ?Did you have a favorite piece? What else would you like to see me try on at Target?

So many cute finds! I’m definitely going to have to pick up the white button down top! Also eyeing the tank and the last dress. I love when dresses have pockets. Also, your baby is too adorable!
Target does it again! Thanks for all the great suggestions!
I stumbled upon you on Instagram. I love this! You’re making my life so much easier.
