Of all of my fall wardrobe staples, the utility jacket has been a go-to for the longest. Regardless of the year’s trends, it’s a classic piece than can be worn in so many ways! But often times, I find myself wearing it in the same old ways. There’s nothing wrong with throwing it on over a simple tee or plaid top, but I loved getting the chance to get a little more creative with these seven utility jacket outfits!
Seven Utility Jacket Outfits
Whether your style is a little more classic or you prefer a trendier look, I’ve got outfits for everyone! We’ll also be chatting the most casual options to even a night out look!
The exact jacket I’m styling is over five years old from Old Navy. But the good news is that since it’s just a classic style, similar options come out year after year! I’m also linking to a similar option from Amazon that I also own in the khaki color! Be sure to size down in both jackets as they run large!
As always, I will be linking to every single item I’m wearing in the different outfits below each photo. There you will also find my sizing and any recommendations (size up/size down/TTS= true to size) I may have!
All Black Outfit
Most of my typical utility jacket outfits lean on the more classic side. So, I really fell in love with this trendier, edgier outfit! I always feel chic in all-black, but the addition of the leopard print booties and jacket really take the look up a notch! Really any statement shoe would work here. If you have a leopard or snakeskin flat, they’d be perfect! Even a brightly colored pair of heels would be fun! Can’t you picture a fun red heel with this look for date night?!
Chambray and Leggings Outfit
This combination is probably one of my most-worn outfits! On casual days, leggings always sound like a good idea, right?! I paired my Spanx faux leather leggings with a long tunic-length chambray button down and cargo jacket. To keep it a super-casual outfit I’d wear any day (and everyday ?) I went with my slip-on sneakers! But you could also make the outfit a little more dressy with a bootie instead!
If you don’t have a tunic button-down in your closet, you could also go with a long tunic length tee! This outfit would also be adorable with a long thermal or chunky tunic sweater!
Tshirt Dress and Sneakers Outfit
I love a simple, throw-on-and-go outfit! You know, one where you really don’t have to put too much thought into it?! This is it! Throw on a tshirt dress, utility jacket, sneakers, and go! To add a little personality to the look, I also added a leopard print headband. (Really any opportunity to add some leopard print is a good one! ?)
If you don’t have a short tshirt dress, a maxi length dress would work here too! (I own and love this one!) Also, a shirt dress or sweater dress would be other great substitutes. You could also switch up the shoe as well too. A bootie would make this outfit just a little less casual!
White Jeans and Plaid Outfit
I love white jeans for fall and winter, especially when paired with neutrals like my nude booties and cargo jacket. (In fact you can see my white jeans fall outfits style session here for even more ideas!) But for this look, I went with all my fall classics: plaid, booties, and my cargo jacket!
I typically front-tuck these type of plaids, but I decided to switch it up with a bow! I love the touch of femininity it adds to the more masculine plaid and jacket combo. A chambray top would be another great alternative to the plaid. Or even a white button down with blue denim jeans would work here!
Sweater and Over the Knee Boots Outfit
The sweater options for this outfit are truly endless, but I love this lightweight cropped cardigan! It definitely gives the look a very updated classic vibe. If you don’t have a shrunken cardigan, go for whatever sweater you have in your wardrobe! A crewneck, turtleneck, or cowl neck are all great options!
For the shoe, the options are also pretty endless! Knee high boots would give a very similar look, but you could also go sportier and more casual with a sneaker. Rain boots would make it all-weather appropriate and a bootie would work too!
Camisole and Heels Outfit
I wanted to create more of a date night option, and in my mind you can’t go wrong with a camisole and heels! It might be getting a little too cool where you are for open toe heels, so a closed toe pump would be a great option! You could also make this outfit more casual for everyday with a bootie!
Jumpsuit Fall Outfit
Of all of my cargo jacket outfits, this one is one of my favorites! There is something a little unexpected about the combination of a feminine floral jumpsuit and a more masculine, structured jacket! If you don’t have a jumpsuit you could also substitute a maxi dress! The main takeaway from this outfit combination is that you can pair something more feminine, flowy, and even dressy with your utility jacket!
