I’ve been really loving getting back into weekly style sessions where I style one outfit piece multiple ways. It’s one of your favorites (and top requests), and I love being able to help you work your wardrobe in new ways! This week’s top styling request on Instagram was ways to wear a jean skirt for fall! Luckily I had just purchased a denim mini from the recent Madewell sale! Whether you prefer more classic looks or want an on-trend outfit, you’ll definitely find an option included in my six fall denim skirt outfits!
Six Fall Denim Skirt Outfits
Let’s first start off my talking about the exact denim skirt I’m wearing. It’s a button-front a-line mini from Madewell. It also has two mini pockets in front! The denim has plenty of stretch, making it super-comfortable to wear! I sized down to a 6 and like the fit. (I’m typically a 6-8 at Madewell.) I’d say if you’re in between sizes, size down. Otherwise stick with your true size!
If you’re curious about sizing for any other items I’m wearing, be sure to check below the image! There I have links to the exact items I’m wearing along with my size. I also list any recommendations if I suggest sizing up or down. (TTS = true to size!)
Bodysuit + a Moto Jacket Outfit
I’ve been really into bodysuit since this spring! (In fact you can see me style a short sleeve wrap bodysuit multiple ways here!) This one is a long sleeve version, which I love for the upcoming cooler months. It’s also nursing-friendly due to the wrap style!
For this look, I topped the bodysuit with a moto jacket, and I love the effortless, cool vibe. But there are a ton of substitutions you could make with this outfit combination as well! Don’t have a bodysuit? Swap for a fitted tee instead! Instead of a moto jacket, a cargo jacket or a cardigan would be great alternatives!
Just a quick note about my exact jacket! It is a true leather and the price tag reflects that. If you’re interested in vegan leather options, my go-to is BB Dakota! I own several of their faux leather jackets and am always impressed with the look, feel, and quality. (This is my current fav brown faux leather option!)
If you’re a casual gal, this outfit is for you! I love a sweatshirt and skirt together! The sneakers round out this casual look. My main advice for pulling off this look is to make sure you highlight your waistline! To do that, I front tuck my sweatshirt! The same idea goes with casual sweaters as well! You’ll see another example of this in the next look below.
Oversized Turtleneck Sweater Outfit
Ok, y’all. I looooove this combination. I just love a chunky, oversized sweater. Is there anything cozier?! Just like I mentioned in the previous outfit, tucking prevents completely overwhelming your figure. When this sweater is untucked, it creates a very boxy, shapeless look. Even if I was pairing this sweater with jeans, I’d front tuck!
To keep the rest of the look sleek, I also went with a slim bootie! The pointed toes elongate the leg and help balance out the oversized top! You could also do a boot, but I’d still try to keep it a slimmer cut boot to the balance the proportions.
Button Down + a Cardigan Outfit
For my classic-loving ladies, this outfit is for you! It’s truly not a style session without the appearance of my fav white button down top! ?To maintain the waistline, I unbuttoned the last two buttons and knotted my top right at my belly button. You could also tuck in to highlight the waistline. If you wanted to make the look even more quintessentially fall, go with a plaid button down instead!
I chose to pair my button down with a cardigan, but there are so many options that would work here! You could also wear a moto jacket, cargo jacket, or poncho wrap!
Since the cardigan I chose is slimmer and frames the body, you could also go with a chunkier shoe! A wider boot would work perfectly here, but of course, I always love the look of a pointed-toe bootie on the leg.
Shrunken Cardigan Outfit
I wanted to share a trendier option as well, and this shrunken cardigan is very on-trend! I still chose to front-tuck, but since the shape is closer-to-the-body, you could also wear it untucked! Another cute way to add some versatility to a shrunken cardigan is to add a layer! Throw on a camisole, tee, or bodysuit underneath and wear it unbuttoned!
Sweater Vest + Turtleneck Outfit
This look ended up being one of my favorites! I absolutely love a long sweater vest. They have all the versatility of a long cardigan, but the vest style is a little more unexpected! I always feel super-chic when I wear mine!
Make this look your own by swapping out the turtleneck with a long sleeve tee, light sweater, or bodysuit! Of course you could also wear a long cardigan instead of the vest as well! A moto jacket or cargo jacket would work well too!
By sticking with a slimmer over the knee boot, the entire look stays very long. I swear I look even taller than I am in this outfit! But like with the slim cardigan, you could also go with a chunkier boot! It’s all about balancing the different proportions!
Which was your favorite of my six fall denim skirt outfits?
