Being at home, I’ve been favoring comfortable outfits over anything. But as someone who loves getting dressed everyday, joggers, leggings, and bike shorts only get me so far. Thankfully, I have comfy dress options like my go-to black maxi dress to mix it up! It is a wardrobe staple for me and a piece I wear consistently from spring through fall. I had the best time getting creative with these seven maxi dress outfits for spring! I hope they help inspire you!
Seven Maxi Dress Outfits for Spring
With a t-shirt style material and relaxed fit, this maxi is best suited for more casual outfits! But since it is a true basic, it’s incredibly versatile! It’s also a piece that makes a great item for a capsule wardrobe or vacation capsule!
The fit is relaxed, but I stuck with my typical size medium. It’s under $25 and has held up extremely well over the past year! If you want even more black maxi dress options though, you can check out my big Amazon black maxi dress round-up, where I try and rate 10 different options!
Maxi Dress + Graphic Tee Outfit
One of my most recent purchases and now most worn pieces is this leopard tongue tee. (You can actually see four more outfits with this tee here!) I’ve been wearing it with jeans, bike shorts, and joggers. But this is definitely my favorite way I’ve worn it yet! This outfit is just as comfortable as a tee and leggings but feels so much more put together! I just threw it on over the dress, pulled it to one side, and knotted it up at my natural waist.
I went with sneakers to keep it casual, but this could also be made a little edgier with a pair of booties! You could also wear it sandals for a summer-y vibe!

Maxi Dress + Utility Jacket Outfit
A utility jacket is a great way to add a little structure to a looser dress! Although I typically reach for my green version, I decided to mix it up with my tan jacket. It’s such a great neutral. I really need to wear it more often! I kept with the neural vibe by selecting tan mules. I love that they have a little bit of a heel to make it a little more feminine looking!

Denim Jacket Maxi Dress Outfit
You can’t get any more classic than a maxi dress and denim jacket combo! It’s a no-brainer, right?! Similar to the utility jacket, the denim jacket is a nice contrast to the flowy maxi dress, adding some structure to the outfit!
I went with a heeled sandal to make the outfit slightly more dressy, but the shoe options are pretty endless here! You could go more casual with sneakers or slide sandals! You could also go dressier with an espadrille.

Kimono Maxi Dress Outfit
For a more relaxed, laid-back outfit, I love adding a flowy kimono! It’s another simple combination that always works! Both shorter and longer kimonos work! You can also go with any print or even lace to change up the look! My exact kimono is a recent purchase from Aerie, and of course I love the print! You can see me style this exact kimono more ways in my leopard kimono outfits post here!

White Button Down + Maxi Dress Outfit
For a classic maxi dress outfit, I love the addition of a white button down! This short sleeve version is a go-to staple from spring to fall. But you could also roll the sleeves up on a long sleeve version as well.
I recommend buttoning the top to hit right around your belly button. Then fold the shirt underneath all the way around. Take the two ends and knot into a double knot! At this point, adjust the fold to hit where you’d like. You can also tuck more of the top underneath if necessary.

Maxi Dress + Chambray Top Outfit
Once it gets a little too warm out for my heavier denim jacket, I love swapping it out for a light chambray top. Unbutton it, scrunch it to the side and roll the sleeves for a casual undone look! I also love tying it around my waist! You can also do that with a denim jacket, but again, it’s much lighter with chambray! I opted for my sneakers here but sandals would also work. Espadrilles or heeled would definitely make it dressier as well!

Vacation Vibes Maxi Dress Outfit
Although I love adding a third piece to complete my outfits, this maxi is also adorable on it’s own! I’ve even worn it as a swim coverup! To make it more vacation-ready, I took one side of the front hem and knotted it. I also added a fun straw hat! If you wanted a sportier version, it would be adorable with a baseball hat and white sneakers!
