No matter the season, one of my favorite hair looks are beachy waves. They’re unfussy and laid-back. And I love that they don’t have to be perfect. In fact, they look better when they’re not! To get the perfect beachy waves I always rely on my fav styling tool – the T3 Whirl Convertible Wand. It has several different barrel attachment options, but for this look, I use the tapered wand.
For these type of curls, I always let my hair air dry. Blowdried hair is great for smooth strands and very sleek curls. But airdried hair has a bit more texture, which fits the beachy waves vibe. If you have naturally super-straight or flat hair, I’d recommend using a texturizing spray.
I separate my hair off in four sections, the first being right at the top of my ear. I curl 1-2 inch sections of hair at a time. Near my face, I always curl away. Then I alternate directions with each mini section.
Be sure to leave an inch or so of the end of your hair out uncurled. Beach waves are never spiraled all the way to the tip! I continue this process all the way around through all sections. For this tutorial I held the curl for about 8 seconds, which is actually a bit longer than I normally hold. (I normally hold about 5 seconds for a looser wave!) This will be a bit of a trial process for you and your hair. If you hair holds curl really easily, hold it for less time for a more relaxed look!
After curling my entire head, I allow my curls to set for a minute or two. Basically I want the strands to cool down so that they’re no longer warm. Then I run my fingers throw them all and mess them up a bit.
To finish them off, I added a bit of shine serum. If you want even more texture, lightly spray your curls with a sea salt spray.
