I’ve never been good at keeping secrets, but man have I been keeping a big one. For well over a year we’ve been working on a major project– we’re building a home!
When my parents moved from California to Virginia last January, we pretty quickly decided to combine households. They moved in with us in our home, and we started house-hunting right away for a home that would better accommodate our families. But we really struggled to find what we were looking for. So around March, we decided that building was the best way to get exactly what we wanted in a new home!
We spent months researching home models, neighborhoods, and discussing how we could get exactly what we were looking for: a home with two masters, an open floor plan, a large kitchen, a home office for me, and plenty of space for the entire family. And y’all it is so exciting to see our dream come together.
The build started around December, and from there things just took off! We visit almost weekly. To see the progress has been so fun! But now that we’re less than a month from actually moving in, it’s starting to get exciting. I’m not great at visualizing space, so having actual walls and cabinets and tile makes all the difference!
I mean, just check how our fireplace went from this….
To this…
Ahhh! I love it so much, and it’s still not even complete yet!
This weekend the floors should be in, and I know that’s going to make it feel even more real. Although I won’t be showing the full home until it’s complete, I couldn’t share the news without giving y’all a sneak peek!
So here’s a look at my favorite space! A two-story living room that is open to our kitchen and breakfast room.
And a little closer look at our kitchen because I am obsessed with our backsplash!!
And the other space that I can’t get enough of? Our screened in porch! I imagine I will be spending a lot of time out here. Since it’s raised due to the basement, it feels like a treehouse, fully surrounded by nature! It is so peaceful and quiet– a true little slice of heaven.
We also have a loft space overlooking the two-story living room and the girls rooms on the second floor. There is also a fully-finished basement and living area where my parent’s master is located.
Get ready, y’all! There will be lots more new home content to come! I can’t wait to share a full empty home tour once it’s fully complete! And of course I’ll be sharing as we furnish it and truly make it ours!
Thank you for coming on this new journey with us!
Hi! Beautiful home! I’d love to see a pic from the backyard toward the back of the house. We have a similar layout with the windows and doors and I want to see how the roofline is for your outdoor living space. We have a deck right now that I really want to cover. Can’t wait to see more!
Thank you, Misty! I will definitely take a photo from behind the house the next time we’re out! ❤️
thats so awesome. you got a really good taste.
