Día de los Muertos Ofrenda Inspiration

It’s hard to believe that October is officially here! And while we typically are gearing up for Halloween festivities, this year, we’ll also be celebrating Día de los Muertos as a family for the first time. And in preparation, I created our Día de los Muertos ofrenda inspiration to share with you!

As a Latina American with Mexican ancestry, I’ve always loved the idea of honoring those who passed on through Day of the Dead celebrations. However it’s just not a tradition we grew up celebrating. Even when growing up in Tucson, Arizona over twenty-some years ago, it wasn’t as wide-spread of a tradition as it is today.

But over the past several years, our family has suffered some big losses. We’ve lost loved ones and friends. So a few weeks back, we all decided that we wanted to create our first Día de los Muertos ofrenda to remember, honor, and celebrate our loved ones who have passed on.

It may sound silly but I am truly excited about taking part in this growing Mexican holiday and am looking forward to cementing Día de los Muertos as a family tradition for years to come.

Día de los Muertos Ofrenda Inspiration

It being our first year, I of course, did a lot of research behind the history and significance of all of the pieces that make up an ofrenda. To hold photos of loved ones, I ordered this set of classic matted black frames. I also found this beautiful and affordable white lace tablecloth that will act as the perfect backdrop! Candles lit for loved ones are also a must, so I ordered both these smaller orange votives as well as these flameless LED pillar lights that I plan to place into lanterns. I also found this beautiful set of teal goblet glasses and this platter to display our loved ones’ favorite foods and drinks.
