If you’ve been long awaiting sundress season, you’re not alone! But do you ever feel stuck wearing your favorite sundress in the same ways? There’s so much more that you can do with a sundress than wearing it with sandals or throwing on a denim jacket! These six ways to wear a sundress will have you wearing your sundresses all season long and show you just how versatile they are!
Six Ways to Wear a Sundress
I love a good dress, especially a sundress during the warmer months. You can throw them on and go! But I hate feeling like an item in my closet only has one purpose or one way to wear it! That’s why I started my style session series to bring versatility into your wardrobe (and mine too!)!
Last year I styled this same sundress five ways. But I wanted to push myself even further, coming up with fresh, new sundress outfits! From sporty to dressier options, we’re covering them all today!
The exact sundress I am styling is an oldie but goodie from H&M. But luckily, it’s a super-classic style that you can still find! Target has a tiered version I love! They also have a nearly-identical version that comes in white, orange, and plaid. If you’re looking for links to anything you see me wearing, be sure to check the photo captions! There I will also list any sizing recommendations I may have! (TTS= true to size)
Sundress with a Belt Bag
Want to go for a classic sundress look with just a little switch up? Add a belt bag (or just a belt for my anti-fanny pack friends 😉)! I love mixing all my neutrals together. Black, browns, and tans are the perfect mix! I went with sandals here but I could see this being a great outfit for an outing with the kids if I swapped out for sneakers! The belt bag holds just the essentials and keeps me hands-free!
You could also use the belt bag as a base for layering with a tee or sweater! (Scroll down to the last look to get a better idea of what I mean!)
Sundress Layered with a Tee
It’s a flashback, but I love it. Also, for my anti-strapless bra friends (I know some of you have to be with me on it!), layering with a tee underneath is a great option! It’s also another family-friendly option if you’ll be with the kids and want to lock up the girls, ya know?! 😉 To make this look work, you’ll want to stick with a slim-fitting tee! These are my favorite! I own it in three colors!
Sundress Layered with a Button Down
If you ask me, a classic button-front top is a wardrobe staple! They are one of the most versatile pieces I’ve ever owned! (Just check my seven tied button front top outfits to see!)
This combination is simple, easy, and classic. It could even work for a more casual office setting! You could also wear it more casually with flat sandals or sneakers!
Sundress and Kimono Outfit
Looking for a great warm weather layering piece? Just add a kimono! I’ve owned this one for over a year and love it! I will throw one on over just about anything in spring and summer from swimsuits to tees! (See my kimono outfit style session here!) But there is something that feels especially sophisticated while also being easy-breezy about a kimono with a sundress!
Knotted Tee with a Sundress
Another fun way to layer a sundress with a tee is over top and knotted! I went with a graphic tee for a trendy, playful look, but you could also keep it more classic with a solid! To get the look, pull your tee over to one side and knot it. Be sure to tuck the rest of the tee, especially the back, underneath! You can also use a clear hair tie (like I did here with a leopard tank!) if you’re worried about stretching out your tee!
Sundress with a Sweater
Another fun layering option is with a sweater! This outfit is perfect for early spring days or even going into fall! I added a belt right at my waist and then tucked the front of my sweater in to achieve the look!
Since it’s warmer here, I pushed up the sleeves and added a lace-up sandal! But for fall, I would wear it with booties! You could even add a felt hat to add some additional fall texture.
