There’s no denying it: shirt jackets are the hottest trend for fall and winter. While I love a good plaid top, it took me a while to buy in. But once I actually tried one for myself, I realized just how versatile and wearable they are! So, are you ready to try the trend? Here are five shirt jacket outfits to get you inspired!
Five Shirt Jacket Outfits
If you’ve ever layered with an open button down (one of my favorite styling tricks, especially when pregnant!), then styling a shirt jacket or “shacket” will be a breeze! They have a very similar look to a classic plaid button down, just with a heavier weight and super-oversized fit.
The exact shirt jacket I’m styling is a heavy weight jacket and is fully lined. It’s also super-cozy, made of a fuzzy boucle that so soft to the touch. I do recommend sizing down. I’m wearing a small with plenty of space for heavy sweaters! If you’re looking for more shirt jacket options, scroll down below the outfits for options at every price point!
Shirt Jacket and a Dress
I’ve told you I’m a t-shirt dress kinda girl, right? (Maybe once or twice.) They’re so versatile for many seasons, and yup, they work great as a layering piece for a shirt jacket! What I love about this combination is that you can really switch up the vibe with different accessories.
To make it a little dressier, I went with a pointed toe bootie. Want an everyday casual look? Go for a sneaker, and you’ll instantly looked more dressed down. For the ultimate fall look, try a bootie or combat boot and add a felt hat!

Leggings and a Cropped Tank
If I can wear leggings and still look on-trend, I’m in full support of the outfit. This combination may be more on the trendy side, but it’s also super-achievable! I’m wearing my all-time favorite leggings and a ribbed tank. To fake the cropped tank look, I simply tucked under the hem of my top into the bottom of my bra. I’m all about an easy hack for clothes I already own! A white sneaker completes this sporty-casual look.

Sweater with a Shirt Jacket
For the ultimate in classic style, I topped a sweater and denim with a shirt jacket. The henley design of the sweater with heavier lug sole chelsea boot give off a menswear-inspired tomboy vibe. But you could easily make this combination more feminine and classic with a cream cable knit and slimmer shoe (like a pointed toe flat!)

Dressed Up Shirt Jacket Outfit
When I want to look slightly dressier but still wear denim, I always go for a dark wash! These nearly-black jeans paired with a classic black turtleneck are a simple yet chic canvas. Adding the heel completes the dressier vibe. For a more casual or trendy look, I’d swap the heels for a combat boot!

Shirt Jacket with a Hoodie
Once it gets truly cold out, it’s all about heavier layers. And one of the best ways to layer is with a cozy hoodie. While a sweatshirt and denim is a simple, easy outfit, adding the shirt jacket completes the look and adds more personality. To keep the look from getting sloppy, I recommend sticking with a more slim-cut sweatshirt! I opted for sneakers, but this would be equally as cute with boots!
