Let’s talk about dressing real bodies. As someone with an apple-shaped body (meaning I carry most of my weight around my middle) I’ve learned what styles flatter, feel good, and actually get worn on repeat.
If you’ve ever wondered how to dress an apple-shaped body and feel confident doing it, this post is for you. I’m sharing my favorite tips, go-to outfit formulas, and the wardrobe staples that have become my secret weapons.

My Sizing
For reference, I’m 5’7.5” with long legs and a short torso. I typically wear a size 8 or medium in most pieces, and my jean size is usually 29. If you ever have any questions about fit, check the links below each image for sizing recommendations, or feel free to leave a comment!
1. Empire Waist Dresses Are a Game Changer
Empire waistlines are ideal when dressing an apple-shaped body. They highlight the area just under the bust (typically the slimmest point) and float away from the tummy area, creating an elegant, elongating look. Here’s some of my favorites. Just click the image to shop.
2. V-Necks Help Draw the Eye Up
When it comes to flattering necklines, V-necks are always my go-to. They visually elongate the torso and keep the focus upward, which is a subtle but effective styling move for apple-shaped figures. I’ve added some examples below.
3. Structured Blazers Create Definition
Structured jackets help define the shoulders and bring balance to your silhouette. Skip oversized styles and go for something more tailored to give the illusion of a more defined waist. I don’t typically wear blazers loads but when I do, I love! Click the image to shop some my favorite that I re-wear every year.
4. The Best Jeans for Apple-Shaped Bodies
Jeans can be tricky, but high-rise styles with a soft waistband are perfect for smoothing and supporting the midsection. Look for stretchy fabrics and gentle shaping panels for all-day comfort.

5. Flowy Tunics That Still Offer Shape
Not all loose-fitting tops are created equal. I look for tunics that have a slight taper at the waist or smart side slits. These break up the silhouette and add movement without adding bulk.
