Y’all, I can’t even tell you how excited I am to share these photos with you today. Going sunflower picking was one of those things I had wanted to do for a while now. And it was seriously so cool.
Last year I heard about sunflower fields right outside of Richmond, but my husband and I completely missed the free picking weekend. I can’t even remember what it was that kept us from going, but I did not let it go for a while! ? I kept coming across these gorgeous shots on Instagram and had some serious sunflower picking FOMO! And then this year I thought I missed it again!
I was in California for the free picking weekend, but Lickinghole Creek announced that they still had sunflowers left the following Saturday. And even though we were all suffering from some major jet lag from traveling the day before, my family and I drove out to the brewery to grab a beer and as many sunflowers as we could carry!
Although the fields closest to the brewery were pretty picked over, I was amazed to see several fields still full of sunflowers! They were so gorgeous in person. Even though I wish I could have collected all the sunflowers (they let you take as many as you can carry!), we only created two bouquets to take home.
If you haven’t gone sunflower picking before, I recommend bringing a pair of clippers. We did not and struggled breaking off some of the bigger flowers. Also, they are covered in bees. So if you have a major bee phobia, I might skip it! (I think my poor sister was jumping half the time!) 😉 The stems can be a bit prickly, but it didn’t bother me. If you’re worried about getting stuck, gardening gloves might come in handy! Also bring a vase or bucket to keep your flowers watered on the way home! We completely forgot to do this and ended up trying to hold our flowers in water cups for the trip home!
Have you been sunflower picking before? Do you have any additional tips?
These photos are stunning & it looks like such a fun way to spend the day! We definitely don’t have sunflower fields here but it is something I would love to do!
This looks like so much fun and you look absolutely stunning in these pictures.

Amazing! Amazing photos! You are gorgeous!
Gorgeous photos!! We have done a sunflower maze a few times but will have to look into picking fields! Great tips on the picking process, especially on needing something to take them home in! I wouldn’t have thought of that either.
Wow, it doesn’t get much prettier than this and I love the flowy top!
