Can we all agree that we’re Amazon-obsessed? I don’t know what I did before Prime 2-day shipping. (And yes, I realize that’s overly dramatic. Like, I clearly would just drive to the store… or several stores until I found what I needed.) But Amazon has certainly made life so much easier. And now that I’ve discovered the wonder of Amazon fashion, it’s even better! But sometimes, the options on Amazon can be overwhelming, right?! So, I decided to do something a little different and search for the very best Amazon maxi dress.
A basic maxi dress is one of my wardrobe staples. I wear them from spring into fall with everything from leather jackets to kimonos to button down tops and everything in between. It’s an all-around must-have in my closet. But I was in need of a new classic black option. So, what did I do? Order all the Amazon maxi dresses.
Best Amazon Maxi Dress
Y’all, when you search black maxi dress on Amazon, you don’t even want to know how many options come up. (It’s over 50,000 in case you couldn’t go on without the answer. ??) So, I did a little hunting and found 10 of the most highly-reviewed options. I picked spring-and-summer-friendly options. (We’re talking short sleeve and tank style dresses!) And I also kept the price point low! Every option is under $30 with the exception of one that I bought for $34!
As far as my sizing goes, I’m 5’7 1/2″ and typically a size 8 or 28/29 or a medium. If you have any questions about what size I’m wearing, I will list the details in my descriptions as well as beneath each photo for quick reference!
Starting off strong! This maxi dress has spaghetti straps that are adjustable (praise!), a relaxed fit, and pockets. It also has two side slits that although for easy movement, and I love the length on me. For those of you looking for a color other than black, it also comes in 14 other colors and prints. Fit is TTS and comes in S-XXL. I’m in a medium.
For my taller gals, I don’t know if you can beat the length of this one! I was stepping on it slightly with flat sandals on. I like the v-neck and the wider straps. You wouldn’t have to wear a strapless bra, and it’s not too low cut. Fit is very oversized. I sized down one to a small and it’s still plenty relaxed on me. This one comes in 22 colors and prints and sizes XS-XL. The only downsides are that the material felt a little thinner to me, straps are not adjustable, and there are no pockets.
Dress (small — size down)
Well, if you’re wondering which one is my least favorite, that’s an easy one. It’s this one right here. The fit is just completely off. It’s supposed to have a fold-over top that hits at the waist. The elastic band should be hitting at the small of my waist but it’s much, much lower. I know I’m short-waisted but not that short-waisted. And then the skirt portion of the dress fits much tighter than it’s supposed to. Short answer: don’t order this one. It’s nothing like the picture in the listing.
Dress (medium – fit small in the bottom, long up top) — I do not recommend it
If you prefer a tee-style maxi dress, this option is awesome. I love the relaxed fit, the pockets, the side slits, and all of the color options (there are 27 colors and prints!!). I’m wearing a medium and like the slight slouchiness of it. It comes in sizes XS-XXL. It’s also under $25 and on Prime 2-day shipping.
Another Grecerelle winner! I gotta tell ya: if you’re looking for a maxi, this is a brand I would trust! This one is a little different because it is a racerback top with a higher neckline and a defined waist. It is so flattering on and has pockets! This is the type of dress that works wonders as a pregnancy and beyond dress. Because of the high waist, you could easily wear it with a bump! And it will continue to flatter your body afterwards too! The only downside is that it’s nursing-friendly. Fit is TTS. I’m in a medium, and it comes in sizes XS-XXL. There are 31 prints and solid color options!
This is another option that is so flattering on! It has a halter-like look to the front but is racerback. I also really love the defined waistline. I wouldn’t recommend it as a pregnancy option since the waistline is wider, but it’s definitely nursing-friendly. It also comes in a colorful printed option and is available in S-XL. Fit is TTS. The downside is that it’s currently listed at $49. When I ordered it, it was only $34. I’m not sure why the price jumped so much, but if you love this one, I’d watch the price. I’d recommend it at $34, but I don’t think it’s worth $49!
Daily Ritual is one of Amazon’s private brands, and I’ve been impressed with the items I’ve tried so far! This dress is a little more fitted and does not have pockets. But, y’all, the material is so soft. It’s called a luxe jersey, and I can see why! The quality of the fabric is definitely higher than some of the others. The only downside is that the fabric does fit a little more clingy. If you want more of an oversized look, I’d size up one, but overall fit is TTS. I’m in a medium.
Here is another Daily Ritual option made of the same luxe jersey fabric as the last! This one is a racerback tank version, and the straps are wide enough to wear with a normal bra. It comes in five other colors, including a black and white stripe that I have my eye on! Fit is TTS and available in XS-XXL.
If you loved the empire waist racerback option, then you’ll love this one too! The fit and fabric are identical. It just has sleeves! This is another awesome bump-friendly option that come in 27 colors and prints. It fits TTS and is available in sizes S-XXL.
If you’re looking for a more statement-making option, I was really impressed with this off the shoulder version! The material felt heavier/thicker on this one but not uncomfortably so. It has an elastic waistband and the shoulder elastic stays put surprisingly well. There are five color options, including a dusty rose pink that is calling my name! Also, pockets and side slits. This is for sure another winner!
Dress (small – size down one)
So which is the best Amazon maxi dress?
Ok, y’all are probably not going to like this answer, but it really is going to depend on what you’re looking for in a maxi dress! If you want a true crew neck classic maxi dress, you cannot go wrong with the Daily Ritual one. If you want a dressier or more fashion-forward option, the off the shoulder one is awesome! I love both the Auselily and the Grecerelle ones with defined waists. They are so flattering! And if you want a laid-back vibe, the other two Grecerelle ones (the tee style and the tank style) are winners too! The only one I would not recommend purchasing is the Favalife.
So which one am I keeping? It was a tough decision but I ended up going with the Grecerelle tee style maxi dress. I really wanted a relaxed fit style and I loved the pockets and side slits. Also not having to worry about the type of bra I’m wearing is also a plus for me. ?I am considering swapping the off the shoulder option for a different color as well. (Maybe that pink?!) I can only wear so many black maxi dresses, but this try on made me want to keep them all! Which one was your top pick?
