Daily Skincare Routine

I’m kind of embarrassed at how long it took me to finally get a skincare routine down. I’m in my mid-thirties, y’all! And although I’ve been washing my face and moisturizing religiously since my early twenties, I’ve only now finally found a routine that I really love. Better late than never, right?!

Daily Skincare Routine

Virginia blogger, Lauren Dix, shares her top skincare favorites, including both her daytime and nighttime skincare routine.

I actually owe a lot of my current skincare routine to previous Sephora sales. Since so many skincare products are on the pricier end, I always take advantage of sales to snag a few items that I need! If you’re also just starting out, I cannot recommend ordering minis to try first too! So many of the items that are now regulars in my routine were mini sizes that I tried in different sets!

Of all the sets I tried, this one is definitely my fav! It allowed me to try the whole collection of Drunk Elephant products. But I also tried this set for daytime products and this one for nighttime as well! Now let’s get into my daily skincare routine!

AM Skincare Routine

In the morning, I start by cleansing with Purity, which I’ve been using for years! What I love about Purity is that is gentle on the skin. It almost has a milky consistency which doesn’t strip my skin of moisture.

I follow with this vitamin c serum mixed with a pump of this ultra-hydrating serum! You can also mix a pump of the hydrating serum with your moisturizer if you prefer. Regardless of how I use it, it’s one of my favorites in my skincare routine. It gives my skin a glow and helps other products absorb more fully into my skin. I also previously tried the OLEHENRIKSEN Vitamin C serum previously, but for my skin, the DE version is much more effective!

After my serums, I follow up with my moisturizer and eye cream. I recently switched to another Drunk Elephant product– the Protini Moisturizer! Of course, I love it. Just call me a Drunk Elephant fanatic now, y’all. The consistency almost feels like a mix of a gel and cream. It absorbs so well into the skin and hydrates without feeling heavy or greasy. I also really like my eye cream! Actually, I’m pretty sure it’s the first one I’ve ever used regularly! ? It claims to brighten under eye circles, which I don’t see much of, but it definitely firms and helps with the application of my concealer!

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over the past couple of months is that taking time to let the products sink in makes a big difference! In between each step, I typically wait 1-2 minutes minimum. I’ll take that time to brush my teeth, get the girls breakfast started, pack Layla’s school lunch or whatever else needs to be done! It may not be the most time-effective, but by letting the products set in, it really helps them absorb better! My makeup goes on better as a result too!

PM Skincare Routine

At night, my routine is a little bit different. I tend to rotate through more products and don’t have a set daily skincare routine I follow. Regardless of the other products I’m using, I always start by cleansing to remove my makeup. When I’m feeling fancy, I’ll even double cleanse with this cleansing brush. But most nights I’m exhausted, and a single face wash will have to do. ?

The serums I rotate through for nighttime are Farmacy’s Honeymoon Glow (an AHA resurfacing night serum) and Drunk Elephant A-Passioni (a retinol cream). Farmacy’s is a chemical exfoliate, gently removing dead skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines and pores. The retinol is an antioxident that improves smoothness, although it’s not recommended for use while nursing or while pregnant. For each, I mix one pump with that same ulta-hydrating serum that I also use in the morning! A couple of nights a week, I’ll also use Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair with a pump of the DE serum! It’s truly the most-used item in my daily skincare routine!

Lastly, I add 1-2 drops of Drunk Elephant’s Marula Oil. It leaves my skin looking a slightly on the shiny/greasy side, which is why I don’t use it in the morning. But at night, I love how it seals in all of the products! I wake up with the most hydrated skin!

Like I previously mentioned, since the Drunk Elephant products are expensive, I would recommend trying the minis first! I ordered both the Daytime Duo and Nighttime Duo to find out which products I loved. (These would also make great gifts!)

Masks

I’m also a bit of a mask junkie! I’ve gotten out of the routine of using them as much as I should! But I truly love the boost a good mask can give to my skin. My all-time favorites are Origins Charcoal Mask, Drunk Elephant’s Baby Facial, and Fresh’s Rose Mask. The charcoal mask deep cleans without drying my skin. Baby Facial resurfaces your skin, improving texture and tone. And the rose masks may be the best thing I’ve ever felt on my skin. It is so hydrating and makes my skin feel incredibly soft. Both my mom and sister also love the Rose mask. It’s higher priced but feels so luxurious and is so effective at hydration.
