Stripes and Paisley

There are some days when I get dressed, look myself over in the mirror and think, “I look cute today! I’m going to remember this outfit…”

…But then my husband walks by and makes some sort of guttural, disapproving sound, or he just pauses and gives me the side-eye. And I know. I know he’s judging.

I’ll admit that sometimes I give myself another once over just to make sure I’m not truly crazed-looking, but often I just roll my eyes, knowing that he doesn’t “get it.”

Do your significant other or guy friends ever make comments about your fashion choices? Do you take their criticism to heart or just laugh it off?

I like the orange and orange together! Husbands are silly.

Matt doesn’t understand the concept of leggings and considers them pants, so he gets bent out of shape if I’m wearing a short dress and leggings (because it’s a dress over pants, to him). I can’t explain it to him no matter how hard I try.

Hi Lauren/Mrs. Hawk. I just started reading your blog and this post made me laugh. My fiance always gives me the side eye when I wear anything leopard. I had a leopard belt on this morning and he said “you look great, except for that belt.” Ha!

Hahaha I’m glad I’m not the only one that happens to! More recently my husband has gotten more into fashion (which I’m totally not complaining about) but will sometimes offer his opinion on my outfit which I may not agree with! I love this look on you, the orange is so bright and cheery for those cloudy fall and winter days!

I love that outfit! That top especially. My hubby and I are very different in some ways. Often, he’s not comfortable stepping out of his comfort zone and taking a risk. I guess our relationship helps him take the leap sometimes. Although he is very supportive, it does happen that he’ll make a disapproving look, or I just *see it* in his eyes that he doesn’t like it. For those things, I don’t need his approval (if it was something more serious, well then that’s another story 🙂 The funny thing is, over the years we’ve been together, I’ve seen him take more risks fashion-wise. For example, when I met him, he ONLY wore a specific type of Levi’s jeans. All his jeans were the same pair. And he’s wear it with one of his (150) golf shirts. After a year or so of being together, with some help from me, he bought a bunch of different pair of jeans. And he loves them now! 🙂

Aww. That’s so sweet that you’ve made him more confident and adventurous style-wise! I’d like to think I’ve expanded my husband’s style vision! 🙂

You look SO cute, I love the orange! Haha, men will never understand. My husband does try to be very support and he’ll say things like “oh I love your peplum top!” And I just look at him and I’m like “why do you know that word” and he’ll say “duh, I read your blog”. Haha. 🙂

Thanks, Yi-chia. My husband does the same thing! He occasionally throws in fashion-related words and I wonder, “why the heck do you know what that is?!”

This outfit is adorable!! Sometimes I do the same thing – I’ll put two colors or prints together and have to reassure myself that it’s not too wild or crazy. And there are some things I put together that John just “doesn’t get.” But then I’ll get a random outfit compliment from a stranger (female, of course) and it’s all the reassurance I need. Definitely remember this outfit, because it’s a great one!

I love the outfit! My husband would probably love it too since there isn’t a cardigan involved. He hates my beloved cardigans, ha.
