Thanks to Walmart for sponsoring today’s post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s officially the last week of summer, and Layla and I are doing all the prep work for her first year of elementary school! All of the paperwork is in, we’ve shopped for all the school supplies, and we even found out her teacher this week! It’s all starting to feel so real! But the last thing we are working on (and let’s be honest, probably my most favorite!) is defining Layla’s back to school style and shopping for new clothes! I mean, I do love new pens and folders, but nothing beats a new pair of jeans, right?!
When it comes to shopping for Layla, I’ve really had to start taking her opinion into account more and more. When she was a little younger, she’d pretty much wear whatever I bought. But in the last year or so, she’s really begun to have and voice her opinion! It’s now a requirement to have her involved in the process, which can be both fun and difficult at times! Thankfully she enjoys shopping with me!
During my last back to school outfit post, I shared that Layla is a dress girl through and through. Last year, I purchased at least four pairs of jeans to start the year that really never got worn. So, this year, I’m not making that mistake! Instead, I’m focusing on purchasing a few pieces she loves and then going from there! Walmart’s Wonder Nation dresses are some of our current favorites. I’m sure y’all remember the “YAY!” dress from Layla’s last post! We also purchased the leopard print version! Another one of my favorites is this button-front dress with printed skirt!
Skirts are another one of her favs, which is how I came across this cutie of a sequin tulle skirt! I love that it has built-in shorts, and Layla is obsessed with the sparkle! We typically stock up on these biker shorts for under dresses and skirts, but it’s so handy when they’re already built in! (These skirts from Wonder Nation also have built-on shorts if you’re looking for more options!)
A few other items we’re trying out this year are jumpsuits and soft pants! It seems Layla’s main issue with jeans is that they’re constricting, so I’ve been coming up with other options for her. This floral jumpsuit we ordered is adorable and is under $10! It’s perfect to wear solo now and with denim jackets later this fall! And these paper bag waist pants, y’all! They are precious and come in several colors, including chambray, which is what I purchased. They are much more comfy than typical denim. Layla approves!
And for shoes, we’re all about cute sneakers! Layla has been wearing these rainbow sneakers almost daily, so I’m thankful we also snagged the star sneakers she’s wearing here! I gotta tell ya: I’m a pretty big fan of the velcro as a mom! But they do come in a lace-up version as well for older kids! For the glitter-lovers, y’all have to check out these! I’m almost afraid to show them to Layla because I know how that’s going to go! ?
How would you describe your kid’s back to school style?
Shop Layla’s favorites!
What a cutie! She looks adorable in her outfit and Walmart has so much cute items for kids that it’s so hard to pick up just a few! My son doesn’t really have an opinion on what he wears so I lay out clothes for him and ask him what he’d like to wear. That way it gives me a feedback of where his style is (sort of!). I hope back to school for you guys are smooth and wishing Layla the best school year yet!
