It’s no secret that I am a t-shirt dress aficionada. They’re one of my favorites from spring through fall because of their versatility, and let’s face it, their comfort! But if you’re stuck with how to style them, I’ve got four no-fail tshirt dress outfit formulas that will work with whatever tee dresses you have in your wardrobe. This combinations work for minis all the way to maxis and every tshirt dress in between!
Tshirt Dress Outfit Formulas
I’ve styled tshirt dresses countless ways over the years. But these four outfit formulas are simple, straight-forward and classic! What I love about them is that they’re easily executed and easily applied to whatever tee dresses are already in your closet. I tend to favor shift styles but a-line and empire waist cuts are also perfect for these combinations!
The two dresses I’m styling are both super-affordable picks. The tank midi dress is currently on sale for $16 and comes in ten colors and patterns! Fit is true to size but relaxed! It’s also 100% cotton, which I love!
The second dress is a mini style available on Amazon! Fit is similar on this one with a relaxed, comfy fit. I’d suggest staying with your true size! It comes in 13 colors, is also 100% cotton, and is under $20!
T-shirt Dress + a Denim Jacket
Adding a denim jacket is a no-brainer, right?! When I’m thinking of classic tshirt dress outfit formulas, this was the first to come to mind! To keep the vibe relaxed and casual, I went with a sneaker. You could easily get a dressier look by swapping for a heeled sandal or espadrille for spring or a bootie for the fall.

T-Shirt Dress + a Chambray Top
Another go-to look of mine is layering with a chambray top! There are several ways to wear it, but this is one of my favs for this time of year! To get the look, unbutton all of the buttons to about your belly button. Then tuck the back of the shirt under, gather the two front ends and double knot them!
This look also works with sleeveless button down! If you have a long sleeve version, just roll up the sleeves for warm days! You can also wear it unbuttoned as a light denim jacket-style layer or tied around the waist! (Getter a better idea of these other chambray styles in my maxi dress style session!)

T-Shirt Dress + a Knotted Tee
Another super-simple idea is layering with a tee! I went with a more fitted version but relaxed fits will work too as long as you keep the knot snug at the waist. Although I opted for a classic solid tee, graphic tees are also such a fun option! (See an example of that look here!)
Just like the chambray, be sure to tuck the back of the shirt under to create a top-and-skirt look! Gather the shirt to one side or to the center and knot it! You can also use a clear elastic to “tie” it instead.

T-Shirt Dress + White Button Down
This is another classic that I love! Similar to the chambray version, I went with a short sleeve option, but you could also use a long sleeve button down. Depending on the color or patter of your dress, you could also try a patterned button down! Plaid would be so cute for fall. A gingham or seersucker would be great spring into summer options!
